The Chinese agency CNSA has released more videos and photos of Chang’e 4 lander on the far side of the Moon, amongst those, the first ever panoramic view on the far side where the explorer rover Yutu 2 is seen studying the lunar surface. Also there is a new sped-up video showing the spacecraft’s final descent to the moon as seen by the probe’s descent camera, and a 360 degree view image composed by photos taken by the same camera.
The Von Kármán crater, is a bowl-shaped depression which measures 180 kilometers in diameter and is located in the southern hemisphere of the far side of the moon. On the Moon the night lasts 14 days, since this orbits our planet once every 28 days, then at night temperatures will descent to minus 183 degrees Celsius. Chang’e 4 then switches into “sleep mode” since the sun cannot power it up, although it keeps a radioisotope heat source and power generator during this phase to keep the instruments warm until the sun returns.
